THE WORLD'S LAST DAYS

Greetings precious people,

In last weeks article we began to look at the question that is on more and more peopleís minds, What is the world coming to? We looked at this in light of what Godís Word the Bible says. We saw that the world, as we know it, is coming to an end. As this world comes to an end, God will create a new heaven and a new earth in which there will be no more pain, suffering, sorrow, or sin. Righteousness will be the rule and Jesus Christ will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We also saw the reason for which God is going to destroy this world. It is because of manís continued rebelliousness and sin; his continued refusal to submit himself to God and His way and his rejection of Jesus Christ the Lord.

The Bible also tells us the events that will lead up to what is known as The End of the World, The Last Days, and The End Times. The Bible tells us that this time covers a seven-year period. It is marked by a number of specific events. Not wanting that this time should come upon any of Godís people without warning, Jesus tells us of a number of "signs" that would signal the approaching of this time. In response to His disciples questioning Jesus, as to what would be the signs of His return, He tells us in Matthew 24:4-8

"Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."

The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:1-7, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." Make note of what is being said in the last part of these verses. As we have advanced in a technological sense so rapidly in the past fifty years, we have also made a rapid departure from God at the same time.

From these verses and many others that neither space nor time allow us to cite, we are able to get a very clear, as well as disturbing picture of what it will be like just prior to what is known as the Time of the Tribulation. So much of what we have seen in the previous verses is being played out before our very eyes in our world today. The many wars and rumors of threatening of wars. Many believe that because of the recent events that we are on the verge of World War Three. This truly may be the case. We have seen famines increasing over the recent years. Pestilences are more of a reality than any other time in history. Aside from the various biological threats, we continue to see the spread of AIDS in epidemic proportion in many countries. And this is only the beginning of trouble.

Take a good look around and see if what the Bible has told us is not happening in the very day in which we are living. Donít neglect the facts. I know that some will argue by saying, "Those things that have been mentioned, have been happening for a long time." I would agree, because manís heart has always been wicked, since the Fall of Man, in the Garden of Eden. But these current events are happening to a greater degree and intensity, just as the Bible said they would. They are not localized events any longer; rather they are taking place worldwide.

In part, one of the main contributing factors is as Jesus tells us in Matt 24:12, "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold." The term "lawlessness" means living apart from or without the law. It should be evident that it has become common place for greater numbers of people in our society, as well as the rest of the world, to live in lawlessness. It is not only "manís law, laws of society" that people are departing from, but more importantly, they are departing from Godís Law. This can be seen so vividly, in how it has been against societyís law for some time now, to post or make mention of Godís Law. One of the by-products of lawlessness is as Jesus tells us is; "the love of many will grow cold."

Another sign of the approaching of the "Last Days" is as Jesus tells us in Luke 21:26, "Men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken." With the current events and the threat of even greater terrorism, peopleís hearts are becoming overwhelmed with worry and anxiety. I must say that this is for good cause. Things will not get any better. They will become much worse. I know that some would accuse me of being a "Dooms Day Prophet", but the Word of God reveals quite clearly what the future holds. It is not a pretty picture. Just read through the Book of Revelation. If I did not tell it like it is, I would be doing you an injustice and be in disobedience to God. The truth is neither always pleasant nor popular, but it is the truth and necessary.

As bleak as the future may seem, there is hope. Hope that can only be found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ the Lord. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can today. Cry out to Him today to save you and come into your life to be Lord and Savior of your life. You may not know all of what the future may hold but you can know the One that holds the future and be at rest.

Next time we will look at the specific events of the Last Days, such as the Seven Years of Tribulation. Until then, may the Lord draw you close to Himself.
