What is the World Coming to? (Part 7)

Greetings precious people,

Before we continue our series on What the World is coming to, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that prayed for myself and our group that went to Ecuador. The Lord greatly blessed our trip as we traveled and ministered in various parts of the country.

In the past two articles we have seen the beginning of Godís judgements upon a Christ rejecting world. The first set of judgements is known as the Seal Judgements. We also saw Godís plan for the people of Israel. As always, if you would like a copy of past articles you may request them at the address below.

Today we will be looking at the second set of judgements known as the Trumpet Judgements. They are found in the Book of Revelation chapters 8, 9, and 11. In Revelation 8:1-7, we find the first of seven judgements. "When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.

So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up."

Verse one reveals the final Seal Judgement, then in verse two we are given a little introduction of the Trumpet Judgements.® the scene is that of in Heaven. Seven angels appear before the Throne of God and are given trumpets which each will represent a different judgement of God. The first angel sounds his trumpet and hail and fire mixed with blood come falling upon the earth. This will cause catastrophic destruction. We are told that a third of trees and the green grass will be burned up by this judgement.

Just think of the devastating effect this will have on our ecological system. As you know, trees play a big part in the maintaining of balance of our Eco system. Time and space does not permit me to go into great detail, but suffice to say it will be a terrible time on this earth.

In Revelation 8:8-9, we read, ®Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.® If you thought the first trumpet judgement was bad, the second and those that will follow only cause things to get worse. Some believe this judgement is directed to a particular area on the earth such as the Mediterranean Sea. Others believe that it covers all the seas or oceans. Both views are possible. With a fourth part of mankind already killed from the Fourth Seal Judgement (Rev. 6:7-8), this second Trumpet Judgement will cause great problems whether it is worldwide or localized at, say, the Mediterranean Sea area.

Next comes the third Trumpet Judgement. In Revelation 8:10-11, "Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter." Imagine, if you can, what life will be like on this earth with these conditions. Remember that it is not just what we have seen from the first three Trumpet Judgements, but also all of the death and destruction that the seven Seal Judgements have caused. Now with the third Trumpet Judgement, a third of the drinking water is made undrinkable.

After the third comes the fourth Trumpet Judgement. In Revelation 8:12-13, ®Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night. And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!"

Here we see another judgement that will have devastating and frightening effects on those that remain on this earth, an increase in darkness. This will not only be literal, in the physical sense, but will also be representative of the spiritual condition. Wickedness will be so great that it would be nearly impossible to find words to describe the conditions that will exist. This fact is made even clearer as the fifth Trumpet Judgement is pronounced.

In Revelation 9:1-12, ®Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them. The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon. One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things.®

In verse one we see ®A star falls from heaven to the earth, and a key is given to him, to the bottomless pit. ® Notice this is not just a star, but quite probably none other than Satan. In Isaiah 14:12, we read of Satan, How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! {O Lucifer: or, O day star} Then in Revelation 12:3-4, ®And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads.

His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. ® Satan, as well as other angels, are often referred to in the Bible as stars.

This angel is given the key to the bottomless pit. This pit is the holding place for what I believe are demons (fallen angels), that had followed Satan in his rebellion against God. The description of them is given in verses 6 through 10. These verses also tell us of what they will be doing. For a period of five months, they will torment all of mankind that has not turned in faith to Jesus Christ. During this five months, man will seek death, he will try to end his miserable life but will not succeed. The Doctor Kavorkianīs of the day wonít be able to help anyone. Notice also these demons will have a leader, his name is Apollyon in the Greek and Abaddon in Hebrew. Both have the meaning of destroyer.

We have run out of time and space for now. Next week we will continue our study of the Seven Trumpet Judgements. Please keep in mind, dear ones, these judgements of God that we have been studying, are upon the unbelieving world during the Tribulation. If you are a child of God, you will escape these judgements. If you are not a child of God, you need to become one today. Donít wait!
