Sexual Sin part 2

Greetings precious people. In todayís article we will continue to look at the area of sexual sin. With the so-called "sexual revolution" of the 60ís and 70ís sexual sin has taken on a much more acceptable view in our society today. What use to be looked upon as wrong and sinful, is now not only accepted but also even expected. It reminds me of a time in Israelís history when Isaiah the prophet was alive. Listen to what he wrote and see if it does not describe our day as well. In Isaiah 5:20-24, "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, Woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink, Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away justice from the righteous man! Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, So their root will be as rottenness, And their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel."

Godís Word, the Bible hasnít changed over time. What was sin when the Bible was written is sin today in Godís eyes. The Bible does not change with time though it is applicable and relevant to all times. It doesnít change to fit societyís norms and preferences. When I first began to read the Bible over thirty years ago, I would read portions that addressed getting drunk and sexual sin. My rational was, "this is the 70ís, things are different today, weíre free." In time God spoke to my heart and said, "This may be the 70ís, but what My Word identifies as sin, is still sin." Neither God nor His Word change. Malicai 3:6, "For I am the LORD, I do not change." Psalm 102:27, "But You (God) are the same, And Your years will have no end." Luke 21:33, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."

In todayís article I would like to address the sexual sin of homosexuality. Like the sexual sins of adultery and fornication, which we covered in last weekís article, homosexuality has become accepted in our society. It is taught in our public schools and work place as an accepted sexual practice. There are many laws being proposed by our legislature that recognize homosexuality; whatever forms it takes as an accepted lifestyle.

In an attempt to normalize and make homosexuality more appealing, there have been many suggestions offered for its practice and acceptance. The "Kinsey Report", (which was later found to be false) states that 10% of our population is homosexual. There have been some that have suggested that the David of David and Goliath in the Bible, was a homosexual. Others even say that Jesus and His disciple were homosexuals. Some scientific studies are attempting to show that the make up of the brains of homosexuals differ from that of heterosexuals. Many believe that they were born this way, while others say it is a learned behavior. Some go as for as to say that God made them this way, therefore they cannot help it and their behavior cannot be considered sinful.

All of these are manís attempts to justify and rationalize his sin away and make it acceptable. Lets consider what Godís Word, the Bible has to say concerning the sin of homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22-25, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion. 'Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. I feel it is necessary and important to view this next scripture in its context, therefore it is rather lengthy. In Romans 1:18-32, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whispers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them."

Pride is at the base of all sin, including homosexuality. In Jude 7, "As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Many would say that homosexuality was the major sin for which God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, but the Bible tells us that homosexual sin was merely a product of a much greater sin. The greater sin was pride. In Ezekiel 16:49-50, "Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit." Their Pride was the first thing God mentioned. Their sexual perversion was the last. Pride is manís willful rebellion against God and His Word. God has made clear in the Bible what He thinks about sexual sin, but man in his pride says, "I donít care, I will do as I please!"

All sexual sin places a great stronghold on a personís life. It is like an addictive drug. The sin of homosexuality places possibly the strongest hold of all on a personís life. As strong as the sexual desires may be, God is able and willing to give a person victory over them. Regardless of how a person acquires homosexual lust, they still have a choice as to whether they will give themselves over to it or not. The only thing that matters is whether a person will repent and obey God or defy Him and continue to satisfy his lust.
