Is this what freedom is all about?

Greetings precious people. In today’s article I would like to address what appears to be a tragic trend in our society, child abduction, molestation, and murder. I would to God that what I am about to write were only fiction, (a sick fiction), but they are not. They are real and are happening at an ever-increasing rate.

The events of the past few months have both saddened and sickened me, as I’m sure they have you. The recent abduction, sexual abuse, and murder of precious little Samantha Runnion is tragic beyond description. We are being reminded daily by the David Westerfield trial of another tragedy from a few months ago as little Danielle Van Dam met a similar fate. If these were single, isolated incidents it would be bad, but they are not. They are part of an increasing and common trend in our society. Think of all the thousands of children each year that are reported missing, many never to be heard of again. Granted some are missing because of custody battle between the parents, but a large number have nothing to do with custody disputes.

Then there is the recent so-called ‘revelation’ of what is considered to be rampant child sexual abuse among some of the Roman Catholic priests. As is being uncovered, this abuse has been going on for a long time and is more common that we would like to think. Many of these priests that have been accused of child molestation, have been found to be involved with child pornography. This is not to say that all priests are child molesters. There are many dedicated and sincere men that serve as priests that are as appalled as you and I in regards to what their fellow priests are being charged with.

It is also not isolated to just the priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church. A recent report from the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) is that the Jehovah Witness organization maintains a confidential list of child molesters within their organization but do not report the molestation’s to the police. Bill Bowen, a former Jehovah Witness for twenty years, says the church has 23,720 abusers on the list and they are being protected by the organization.

Child sexual abuse is reaching epidemic proportion. One of major contributors, if not the main cause is the tolerance in our society of child pornography. It is being protected by our judicial system under freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and those against censorship. Is this what freedom is all about? Freedom of all sorts of depravity and perversion. We have NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association) a group of men that are trying to legalize sex between men and boys. This organization has held its monthly meetings in such public buildings as our libraries.

Just a few weeks ago our Supreme Court struck down a part of the child pornography law that dealt with ‘virtual’ child pornography, citing it dealt with virtual reality which could not be considered to be real , therefore offering no threat to real children. They put their stamp of approval upon the vilest of sin. We have entered a time that is spoken of in Isaiah 5:20-21, ‘Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!

In regards to the very real dangers that this perverse sexual deviancy exposes our society to, "experts" tell us that there is no clinical proof of any harm that child pornography poses to children or adults. We even have a so-called expert that has recently written a book on the ‘merits’ of adults having sex with children.

Is this what freedom, real freedom is all about? This is no freedom at all; rather it is the worst kind of bondage known to man. To be enslaved to the most based lusts known to mankind. We have become a sick society. Yes we. You and I as citizens of this country are part of it all, especially if we are not doing anything to stop it. How many times have you heard in response to some form of perversion, "whatever turns them on" or "as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone". I was talking to someone at work the other day about this very subject. When I mentioned the mess ‘we’ have gotten into as a nation, haw we as a nation have allowed such perversion, the person responded’ "don’t put me in that group! I’m not part of it " they said. But is that really true? What have you done to prevent such laws from being passed that not only OK such sin but also offer it constitutional protection? Have you contacted your representative voicing your opposition? Have you spoken out against the perversion? Have you prayed against the onslaught of wickedness?

Please listen dear ones; we are in a terrible condition. It’s like the frog in the kettle. If you put a frog into a pot full of boiling water, he’ll do all he can to get out. But, if you put him in a pot of lukewarm water and gradually increase the heat, he will not notice the danger he is in until it is too late. What we are experiencing now is not freedom. Parents are fearful of not only leaving their children unattended in the park or shopping center, but now we are unsure of the safety of our children in their own beds.

We have turned our backs on God. We are doing what is ‘right’ in our own eyes. This always spells inevitable judgement and destruction if there is no repentance. When a nation refuses to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God and insist on having things their way, God will eventually leave them to themselves. There are not too many worse judgements that God can render unto a people than to remove His influence and let them have at themselves.

Look at what God’s Word, the Bible, says in Romans 1:18-32, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress (hold back) the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them."

I know that this looks like a very bleak picture, it is. But I believe that there is still hope. God is not finished with us yet. It is God’s Word that gives me hope. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

This is God’s cure for the sickness that is plaguing our land. Are you His people? If so take heart and obey His Word. If you are not, humble yourself before the Lord right now, cry out for mercy and God’s forgiveness, repent of your sins and ask Jesus Christ to come into your life to be your Lord and Savior.
