Wars and rumors of wars
Greetings precious people, I hope all is well with you. In todayís article I would like for us to look at an area that is a concern to most everyone these days. It is War, which now appears to be the eminent. For months there has been talk of war with Iraq, and just recently weíve discovered that North Korea is becoming a threat to many now.
Many people are unaware of the fact that there are currently over 40 wars going on in the world today, with more wars like that of Iraq, India, and Pakistan threatening to enter into war. Many times we in this country do not think that there are actual wars going on in the world because we are not directly involved. But in the countries where they are taking place, people realize the reality of war on a daily basis. The war that has been going on for years in the African nation of Sudan has claimed over two million victims. Many of them are Christians that have been murdered by the fanatical Muslim government of Sudan.
War is defined for us in Websterís Dictionary as: open armed conflict between nations or states, or between parties in the same state, carried on by force of arms for various purposes; a conflict of arms between hostile parties or nations. We as a nation have been fortunate to have had experienced a very minimal amount of war on our own soil. But we are a relatively young nation, so that may change in the years to come.
The cause of war always has at least one of the following three ingredients: greed, hatred, and anger. Many times those that enter into war do so reluctantly. Some enter in for sake of self-defense, others to take a stand for those that cannot stand themselves. Regardless of the cause and reasons, war is a horrible thing. In the end there are far more losers than winners. It is a tragic part of manís life.
The Bible, Godís Word, tells us that wars and rumors of wars will be one of the signs that will precede the end of the world as we know it. The disciples of Jesus asked Him one day what would be the signs of the end of time. In Matt 24:4-8, "And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."
The Bible tells us that there will come a time (I personally believe that we are on the verge of this time) when God will, in a sense, remove his influence on this earth that is keeping back the evil that man is capable of doing. When this happens, this planet will not be a place that anyone in his or her right mind will want to be. The Apostle Paul makes reference to this time in his second letter to the church of the Thessalonians. In 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12, "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."
Man has wanted a world without the True and Living God for a long time and soon he will have his wish. Only it will not be the utopia that he dreamed it would be. Satan will have a much greater freedom to do as he pleases, and with man doing what is right in his own eyes, it will make for a deadly combination.
The news of wars and possible wars can be quite frightening. A growing number of people are becoming more and more anxious and troubled about what the future holds for us. Will there be war? Will the incidents of terrorism increase in our nation as well as worldwide? Will biological and chemical warfare destroy the world? These possibilities, even probabilities are cause for worry and fear. The Bible tells us how many peopleís hearts will fail them for fear over these events.
Is this how God would have you and I living our lives? No, absolutely not. If you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you need not live in fear of the wars and rumors of war or anything else for that matter. Yes, there are a number of events and possible events that are striking great fear in the hearts of people today, but you do not need to let fear take hold of your heart and rule you.
There are many occasions recorded in the Bible of Godís people facing frightening events. And each time God would speak to them as He would speak to you and I now and say, "Fear not!" one instance is recorded for us in the Book of Isaiah 41:10 Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.' And one of my favorite Isaiah 43:2-3, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
As a child of God I need not fear anything or any one except God Himself. He has promised to take care of me, not only for all eternity but also each and every day. God is faithful; He will never cease to be anything but faithful. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 tells us, "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it."
If you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, donít fear or be afraid of todayís events and the possible oneís of tomorrow. Trust God; rest in Him and His faithfulness. Honor Him in trusting Him to take care of you and all of your needs.
If you do not know Him as Lord and Savior, why donít you turn to Him now and trust Him. What is keeping you from doing this? Is it sin in your life that you are not willing to give up? There is no sin that is worth throwing your eternity away for. Repent
(turn away, forsake) of your sin right now and ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and come into your life to be Lord and Savior of your life. Do it now, donít wait.
