Descanso Detention Facility Our objective is to place inmates in a home church with a mentor under the direction of the church's pastor. Inmates agree to attend Sunday worship weekly or Saturday eve. if avail., attend at least one Bible study ea. week, and attend One Step or Most Excellent Way meetings at least once a week. Once released inmates that don't have a place to live are placed voluntarily in a group Christian living home such as Christianity in Action or Calvary Sober Living. Oct. '03 David Judd- Our objective is to bring hope and salvation to those behind bars, to encourage them so they can succeed after release. We have 2 weekly Bible studies; Sun. night with Rich Halliday, Mon. night One Step to Freedom a drug and alcohol class taught by Mike Willis from Calvary Chapel Julian. David Judd and Rich Halliday lead worship on Sun. David Judd is also chaplain and is available for counseling and study helps. Camp Barrett Youth Correctional Center Oct. '03 Fred Heckeroth-Our goal is to take God's word into the jails and that all who come would receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior or rededicate their lives to Him. That the men and women would leave jail with Jesus in their hearts and not stray away, that through obedience stay out of jail and be grounded in a local church. The Lord has blessed us with Fruit; from the depths of substance abuse's near death to lives serving and worshiping Jesus.
Oct. '03 Nikki Judd-Our vision is to equip the women to go forth and minister to the other women inside the facility that don't come to the Bible study. We have 5 half hour studies with different housing units including the infirmary. It's a blessing to be included the last 7 years in ministering to these women who have had everything taken away. They are ready for the Word and want to change. Praise the Lord. McCain Valley State Prison Camp McCain Valley is a minimum-security prison of approximately 175 inmates. The harvest is so ripe here. Our Sunday night bible study has anywhere from 12 to 20 men -who attend. There have been times that it has gotten down to only a few men, but God always raises up men inside the prison who will get other men to come. We have been holding bible studies there for 9 years and seen many lives changed through the power of God’s word and the Holy Spirit doing a work in their lives. By the worlds terms these men have nothing to be thankful for, yet during worship these men will stand the entire time with their hands raised and singing praises from the bottom of their hearts. Many times I am humbled and ashamed at my complaining or ungrateful attitude for the things the Lord has blessed me with. At the end of the bible study we stand in a circle and hold hands and pray. It brings me to tears as I look around and see these men who many of them have spent much of their lives in prison and yet they are coming to the Lord as little children. Many times their prayers are for us, and [pray that our prayers would be for them and their families. It can be difficult for these men to stand up for their faith in such a dark place; they need our prayers to be the light in such darkness. We go out to the prison to bless others with God’s word, yet it’s us that walk away feeling so blessed, and so privileged that the Lord has allowed us to serve Him in this ministry. |
